Certification
Professional Coaching License Requirements
If you held at least two temporary coaching licenses in the same sport and have at least three seasons coaching under those temporary licenses, you may be eligible for a Professional Coaching License in the same sport as the temporary licenses.
- Valid First Aid Course
- Valid CPR Course
- Coursework:
- Philosophy, Principles and Organization of Athletics in Education
- Health Sciences of Coaching, and
- Sport specific Theory and Techniques.
- Each of the above listed courses must be from an approved provider.
- Verification of completed coursework may be a certificate of completion, an official transcript, a course equivalent letter
, or an NFHS - AIC Level 1 certificate and CIC Level 2 certificate and Internship Evaluation Information Form

- Workshop - Child Abuse Identification
- Workshop - School Violence Intervention and Prevention
- Workshop - Training in Harassment, Bullying, Cyberbullying, and Discrimination in Schools: Prevention and Intervention (DASA training)
- Fingerprint Clearance
- Three years of Experience as a NY Licensed Coach that fall under the previously issued Temporary licenses in the sport of the Professional license application.
You must also update the “Self-Reported Teaching/School Experience” section of your TEACH account with the sport and dates of all your coaching experience. To do so, log into your TEACH account, click on “Update/Add Education, Employment and Personal Information”, click on “Edit Employment Information” and enter you coaching experience information.
