Checking the Status of Your Application

In order to check the status of your application, you must have a TEACH Online Services account.   If you do not have a TEACH account, you must self-register to establish one.  

If you already have a TEACH  account follow the steps to determine the status of your application:

  1. Click "Login to TEACH"

  2. Click "TEACH Online Services"

  3. Under Inquiry Links (third bullet down), click "Account Information."

  4. Once in Account Information, scroll down below your profile; you'll see "Select information you want to view" with a list of options from Education to College Recommendations.

  5. Click "Certificates" and click the "GO" button next to the list.

Check your Status (1):

  • Not Ready for Review: Your application is not currently in line for review.  Your account is missing either: a payment, sealed official transcripts, and/or a recommendation from your college/university.

    • If you applied for your certificate via the Approved Teacher Preparation Program pathway and you do not have a recommendation for the certificate title on your TEACH account, your application will not be “Ready for Review”. You should contact the certification official at the college where you completed your teacher education program and ask them to enter the recommendation onto your TEACH account.

      If your college will not enter the recommendation, then you must request a pathway change in writing.  To do so, figure out your correct pathway and submit your request to the Office of Teaching Initiatives using the OTI Contact form.

      Please note: requirements that you may have already completed will not show as completed until your application becomes ready for review.

  • Ready for Review: Your application is currently in line for review.  Applications are evaluated based upon the order in which they enter "Ready for Review" status.  This is a combination of application date (the date on which you have successfully submitted and paid for your application) and the date on which your paper documentation (transcripts, letters, etc.) is processed and entered onto your account.  Once your application(s) appear on our work queue we will evaluate them accordingly.  You should check your TEACH account periodically to see if the status of your application has been updated.  Login to your account, click on Account Information and go to Certificates.  There you can click on your evaluation history to see if there have been any changes. 

  • Review Complete – Pending Information:  An evaluation has been completed and deficiencies have been found.  A "Notice of Uncompleted Requirements" letter has been mailed or e-mailed to you.

  • Evaluation Complete – Pending Final Review:  An evaluation has been completed and all requirements have been met.  The application will go through an electronic review to check for other pending actions, such as a name change or social security number change request, or a an OSPRA hold. Once any pending actions are completed, the status will change to "Issued".

  • Issued:  The certificate has been issued.

  • Disapproved:  Your application has been reviewed and it has been determined that you are not eligible for this type of certificate.  The application fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

  • Expired:  Certificate is expired.  The certificate can no longer be used for employment in a New York State public school.

  • Review Not Complete:  An evaluator has completed an initial review, and is holding the application for further review.

  • Revoked/Surrendered/Suspended:

  • Withdrawn:  Applicant has requested the application be withdrawn or staff have withdrawn based on other evaluations.

If you click on the "View Application History" link for the application, following screen will appear:

History Type information:
NOTE: A review has not been completed until you see a change in the application status
  • Manual Evaluation:  An evaluator has reviewed your application.

  • Automated Evaluation due to receipt of (enter type):  New information has been entered onto the TEACH system and the computer has completed an automated evaluation. 

    NOTE: Certain requirements can not be verified by an automated evaluation; they will receive a manual evaluation. For example, experience must be reviewed by an evaluator and manually marked as verified met.

  • Change Certificate:  A request has been received, or staff have changed the certificate title or application pathway.

  • Change Effective Date:  The effective date of the certificate has been changed.

  • Change Status:  The status of the application has been manually changed by an evaluator.  Click on the link to view the change.
