Important Announcement: The availability of the individual evaluation pathway to certification has been extended to February 1, 2012 for applicants seeking certificates in all classroom titles except childhood education. For more information go to Extension of Individual Evaluation Pathway to Certification.

This section provides information on New York State certification, which is required for all teachers, administrators, teaching assistants, and pupil personnel professionals employed in the State's public schools.

The side links are resources to help you understand the certification process, obtain information about requirements and available pathways to certification, register for teacher tests, and maintain the validity of your certificate.

Click TEACH Online Services to access our new online system, which offers the following features relating to certification.

Individuals may:

  • Apply for a certificate/check the status of their application
  • View/update their individual profile (update address, request a name change or social security update, etc.)
  • View their individual certification record
  • View/update their professional development record

School districts may:

  • View the certification status of employed teachers and prospective employees
  • View/update professional development hours completed by teachers they employ
  • Enter Superintendent Statements for a Supplementary Certificate or Temporary License
