Re-issuance of an Expired Initial certificate
Your Initial certificate, if expired, may be re-issued only once, for 3 years,
if the following conditions are met:
- You have been unable to secure employment as a teacher - attach list
of school districts contacted, including dates. and
- You complete 1.5 hours of professional development for each month counted
from the effective date of your original Initial certificate through the date
you applied for a re-issuance of the Initial certificate, up to 75 hours of
professional development. Persons who are required to complete the maximum
of 75 hours must complete 45 of those hours within one year prior to applying
for the reissued Initial certificate-attach documentation of professional
development completed, included hours completed and providers of professional
development. and
- You have achieved a satisfactory score on the NYS Teacher Certification
Examination tests, including the Liberal Arts and Sciences test, Assessment
of Teaching Skills-Written and the appropriate Content Specialty test, within
one year prior to applying for the re-issuance of your Initial certificate.
How to Apply for a Re-issuance of an expired Initial certificate
We will not be accepting applications to apply for a re-issuance of an expired
Initial certificate until 6 months before the Initial certificate expires.
