Accreditation
The goal of accreditation is to ensure the general quality of institutions of higher education. The United States Secretary of Education recognizes the New York State Board of Regents and the Commissioner of Education as an institutional accreditor of New York colleges and universities that have sought Regents accreditation voluntarily. Institutional accreditation is voluntary, but accreditation by a recognized entity allows institutions to participate in Title IV and other Federal funds.
The Board of Regents also accredits teacher education programs for State purposes.
