Subject: 2009-2010 School Leadership Assessments Update & Schedule

to take the new School Leadership Assessments (SLA). Last year, the exams were given on a specific day five times over the year at eight New York State locations.

Beginning in August 2009, the School Leadership Assessments will all be administered individually, by computer, during five separate five-day testing windows per year, at thirteen Pearson VUE Test Centers throughout New York, and additional testing centers in adjoining states and nationally.

The design of the examinations has not changed – they remain as two four-hour tests (Part One and Part Two). Previously, the written assignments were completed on computer and the multiple choice questions were completed in paper-and-pencil format. The new versions will be entirely computer-administered.

The 2009-2010 SLA Registration Information document, including the examination schedule, and the test center locations will be available on-line on June 30, 2009, at the Web site of the New York State Teacher Certification Examinations Program, www.nystce.nesinc.com. Test frameworks and Preparation Guides are also available at this Web site.
Beginning July 21, 2009, candidates may register online for a 2009-2010 test date at www.nystce.nesinc.com. Candidates will schedule their exam at a Pearson VUE Test Center during one of the testing windows.

Scheduled administration windows are as follows:
School Building Leader
August 25-29, 2009
December 1-5, 2009
March 2-6, 2010
May 11-15, 2010
July 6-10, 2010

School District Leader and School District Business Leader
September 1-5, 2009
December 8-12, 2009
March 9-13, 2010
May 18-22, 2010

July 13-17, 2010
Please ensure that your faculty and staff advise students of the new administration format, that they must achieve satisfactory scores on the appropriate tests before they will qualify for a certificate as a building-level or district-level school leader, and that it is in their interest to register early for their desired test date and time, as seating at each location is limited.
