Requirements Teaching Assistant - Initial TA Renewal
- Paid application on file.
- Conferral of a High School Diploma or GED
- This was already verified when you obtained your Initial TA certificate. You do NOT need to send it again.
- A passing score on the ATAS exam.
- You have already passed this exam and do not need to take it again. Your scores will carry over to the Renewal application.
- All workshops required for certification.
- You have already completed this requirement, but make sure there are no new workshops to be completed.
- Fingerprint clearance
- You have already completed this requirement and do not need to be fingerprinted again.
- Completion of 100 hours of Continuing Teacher Leader Education (CTLE).
- You will attest to having completed these hours when you apply for the Initial TA Renewal.

Q: How many times can I renew the Initial TA certificate?
A: You can renew the certificate as many times as you’d like.
Q: What happens if I let my Initial TA certificate lapse? Can I still get a Renewal?
A: Yes! You can apply for a Renewal after having stopped out for a while. The Renewal will be valid from the day it is issued.
Q: Where do I send my CTLE completion certificates?
A: You will not send in any evidence of CTLE; you must keep the completion certificates and be able to produce them in the event you are audited.
Q: My TA level I certificate is about to expire; can I apply for this Renewal?
A: No, you would need to apply for the Initial TA certificate and then move to the Renewal when you near the five-year expiration date.
