Dear Governor Pataki :

APursuant to $237 of the Education Law, on June 21, 2005, the Board of Regents adopted a new master plan for higher education entitled The Statewide Plan for Higher Education, 2004-2012. The new Statewide Plan is the culmination of a two-year effot to identify priorities to be addressed through 2012 and to collaborate with the four sectors of higher education. The City University of New York (CUNY), our independent colleges and universities, our proprietary colleges, and the State University of New York (SUNY) - to indentify initiatives addressing the priorities. The Regents also approved and incorporated into the Statewide Plan the long-range plans of CUNY, entitles The City University of New York Master Plan, 2004-2008, and SUNY, entitled The State University of New York Master Plan, 2004-2008.

On behalf of the Board of Regents, we recommened for your favorable consideration, pursuant to $237 of the Education law, approval of the master plan for higher education entitled The Statewide Plan for Higher Education, 2004-2012. We stand ready to address any questions that you might have.
