Under the current regulations, the edTPA Safety Net, which is the Assessment of Teaching Skills – Written (ATS-W), will remain in effect until June 30, 2018. However, after July 1, 2018, teacher candidates will no longer be able to register for or take the ATS-W. Therefore, any teacher candidates who are planning to use the current edTPA Safety Net must submit their edTPA with sufficient lead time to receive their edTPA score and take the ATS-W by June 30 if they want to take advantage of the edTPA Safety Net due to a failing score.

In order to use the existing ATS-W Safety Net, we recommend that teacher candidates submit their edTPA no later than May 24, 2018 so that they receive their edTPA score by June 14, 2018, giving them sufficient time to register for the ATS-W and find a testing center to take the exam by June 30, 2018. A list of edTPA submission dates and resulting score release dates, which may be helpful for teacher candidates who are planning to obtain their teacher certification over the next several months, can be found at the following url: http://www.edtpa.com/PageView.aspx?f=GEN_ScoreReportDatesSTRetakes.htmlexternal link.

Please urge your program directors and faculty to disseminate this information as quickly as possible to avoid situations where teacher candidates are not fully informed about these changes. This information will alert teacher candidates that they need to submit the edTPA much earlier than the edTPA Safety Net expiration date of June 30, if they would like the safety net to be an option.

The edTPA Multiple Measures Review Process (MMRP) is now available for teacher candidates who receive their edTPA score on or after January 1, 2018 and do not pass the edTPA. However, unlike the current safety net, the teacher candidate must score within two points of the passing score and satisfy additional criteria. We are currently in a transition period where teacher candidates who score within two points of the passing score may choose between the edTPA Safety Net (ATS-W) and the MMRP.
