All non-tenured teachers are expected to participate in the Program upon being hired. There are two designations of teachers served in the Program:
Role of the Mentor: The role of the mentor is one of guidance, support, and confidentiality. Mentors are tenured teachers with at least seven years employment at the district, selected by a Mentor Panel, comprised of four individuals appointed by the President of the Victor CSD Teachers Association (a teacher representative from each building if possible) and two individuals appointed by the President of the Victor CSD Administrators' and Supervisors' Association, one representing K-6 and representing grades 7 -12. Each member serves for a limit of 2 years. Responsibilities of the Mentor Panel include: management of the Program as to content and direction; select and recommend teachers for appointment to the Mentor Pool; evaluate performance of mentors; participation in programs necessary for their role as Program managers, and establish criteria for Program evaluation. The role of the mentor is one of guidance, support, and confidentiality. Mentor Pool: A Mentor Pool is established, comprised of individuals appointed by the Mentor Panel, who by virtue of their qualifications have been designated as eligible to be mentor teachers. An appointment to the Mentor Pool is effective for 5 years. Successful candidates must demonstrate outstanding teaching and instructional abilities, effective written and oral communication skills, content area mastery and knowledge of a variety of instructional and classroom management techniques.
