Additional Science Certificate Content Core Requirement Change
June 20, 2022. At its June 2022 meeting, the New York State Board of Regents voted to allow individuals who hold a science certificate and seek an additional science certificate in a different discipline to only be required to complete 18 semester hours, instead of 30 semester hours, for the content core in the subject area of the additional science certificate. This change in the content core requirement will go into effect on June 29, 2022.
On June 29, 2022, the “Additional Science Discipline Certificate” pathway will appear in TEACH for science certificates. Individuals who hold a valid Initial, Professional, or Permanent science certificate would be eligible for this pathway. In this pathway, the content core requirement is 18 semester hours in the science subject area of the certificate sought.
