Reissuance of an Expired Initial Classroom Teacher and School Building Leader Certificates

 

Your Initial Classroom Teacher or School Building Leader certificate, if expired, may be reissued once for five years if:

  • Examination: Even though you may take the required exam(s) after you apply, the certificate will not be reissued until we receive satisfactory score(s) on the exam(s).
    • Classroom teacher: Re-take and achieve a satisfactory score on the NYS Teacher Certification Examination, Content Specialty Test(s) in the area(s) required for the certificate sought, within one year of applying for the reissuance of your Initial certificate.

    • Initial School Building Leader: Re-take and achieve a satisfactory score on the NYS School Building Leader exam, Part 1 and Part 2 within one year of applying for the reissuance of your Initial certificate.

The Initial School Building Leader certificate may be reissued for a second time if:

  • Experience: You have met all requirements for the professional School Building Leader certificate except the three years of school building leader experience and you have been employed in a school district or BOCES to provide Instructional Support Services (ISS) as per section 80-5.21 during three of the last five years.
  • Examination: Even though you may take the School Building Leader Exam after you apply, the certificate will not be reissued until we receive satisfactory scores on both parts.
    • Re-take and achieve a satisfactory score on the NYS School Building Leader exam, Part 1 and Part 2 within one year of applying for the reissuance of your Initial certificate.
