Re-issuance of an Expired Initial certificate
Your Initial certificate, if expired, may be re-issued only once, for 5 years ONLY if you do not already have three years full-time teaching experience or it's equivalent.
If your Initial certificate has been expired less than two years:
You must file an application for the re-issuance and pay the fee.
If your Initial certificate has been expired for over two years:
- You must file an application for the re-issuance and pay the fee.
- You must complete 75 hours of professional development within one year of applying to the Department for the re-issuance of your Initial certificate.
- You must have achieved a satisfactory score on the NYS Teacher Certification Examination, Content Specialty Test(s) in the area required for the certificate sought, within one year of applying for the re-issuance of your Initial certificate.
