Teaching Assistant Level II, Level III, and Pre-Professional Certificate Experience Requirements
For the Level II Teaching Assistant Certificate, individuals must have one year of full-time experience in a New York State public or private school as a teaching assistant while holding a valid New York State Teaching Assistant Level I certificate.
For the Level III Teaching Assistant Certificate, individuals must have:
- One year of full-time experience in a New York State public or private school as a teaching assistant while holding a valid New York State Teaching Assistant Level I or Level II certificate,
OR
- One year of full-time experience as a classroom teacher in a New York State public or private school while holding and working under a valid New York State classroom teaching certificate.
For the Pre-Professional Teaching Assistant Certificate, individuals must have one year of full-time experience in a New York State public or private school as a teaching assistant while holding a valid New York State Teaching Assistant Level I, Level II, or Level III certificate.
Examples of Unacceptable Experiences- Classroom teacher without a valid New York State classroom teaching certificate
- Teacher aide
- Teaching assistant experience outside New York State
- Teaching assistant experience without a valid New York State teaching assistant certificate
- Teaching assistant experience with New York State classroom teaching certificate
