Certification

DASA Training Information

Individuals must complete the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) training workshop for educator certification in New York State. The training addresses harassment, bullying, and discrimination prevention and intervention in schools.

The length of the training is at least six clock hours. Individuals could contact approved DASA training providers to find out if their training will be offered entirely online.

Completing the Training

  • College recommendation. If you received a college recommendation for certification from a New York State college or university with a degree date after December 30, 2013, then you completed the DASA training during your educator preparation program. When you submit an application for certification, TEACH will automatically credit the workshop to your application once the college recommendation is submitted to TEACH by the college. The Workshops section in your TEACH account will NOT list this workshop. No additional training is required.
  • Workshop. The DASA training workshop is only available from a provider approved by the New York State Education Department. Individuals who have not completed the DASA training through a New York State registered educator preparation program must complete the training with one of the providers on the list of approved DASA training providers.

Workshop Documentation
If you completed a DASA training workshop and are not receiving a college recommendation for certification, the provider will report your completion electronically to the Office of Teaching Initiatives within four weeks. You can check your TEACH account regularly to see when the workshop is entered by going the Account Information page in the Workshops section. After the workshop has been entered, it will immediately appear as verified on your application.

The information that you submit to the workshop provider must be an exact match to the identifying information in your TEACH account (social security number, date of birth, full name). Please make sure that the information in your TEACH account and matches the information that you submit to the workshop provider. If it does not match, the processing of your workshop will be delayed. If you have questions about the information the workshop provider has on file, you can contact the provider to make sure that it can submit your workshop correctly.
