Certification
School Leadership Examinations
All candidates for Certification as a School Building Leader (SBL,) School District Leader (SDL,) or School District Business Leader (SDBL) graduating from New York State approved preparation programs after February 1, 2009 are required to pass the appropriate New York State School Leadership Examination. New York State program graduates who completed their Leadership program prior to February 1, 2009 (before the examination was available) may still obtain their certification based upon the requirements at the time they completed their program (no examination requirement) provided they file a completed application with the Office of Teaching Initiatives prior to February 1, 2011.
All graduates of non New York State leadership programs, regardless of the date of application, are required to take and pass the appropriate school leadership examination.
Beginning in late August 2009, the NYSTCE School Leadership Assessments (SLA) for Certification as a School Building Leader (SBL,) School District Leader (SDL,) and School District Business Leader (SDBL,) will all be administered individually, by computer, during several separate testing window opportunities per year, at Pearson VUE Test Centers throughout New York, as well as at additional testing centers in adjoining states and nationally.
Registration information, including the complete examination schedule, test center locations, the test frameworks, and the preparation guides are all currently available online at www.nystce.nesinc.com
