National Program Assistance

Assistance provided to eligible military personnel includes:

  • Counseling and Referral Services include the following services:

    1. Access to our State Offices for counseling relative to becoming a certified teacher and for referral services

    2. Participation in the job referral process via the Internet

    3. Opportunity to post a mini-resume made available to school district recruiters

    4. Use of the TTT Electronic Bulletin Board where participants can post teaching related messages

    5. Use of the MENTOR Connection to contact TTT participants who are teaching for hints about transitioning to teaching as a second career

  • Financial Assistance (Stipend)
  • Financial assistance may be provided to qualified service members in the form of either a stipend of up to $5K for teacher certification expenses for which individuals must teach for three years in a public K-12 “high-need” school district.

    • Expenses Covered by the Stipend.
    • Eligible participants may apply for a stipend to reimburse expenses that are directly related to a teacher certification program, including courses or teaching endorsements leading to a current teacher’s certification/license. Below is a list of eligible expenses:

      1. Tuition – if working toward another degree while pursuing your teacher’s license, include only those courses that are directly related to teacher certification.

      2. Books and materials – for coursework only, not for student teaching. Computer and software are not eligible expenses.

      3. Fees – school registration, parking, certification fees, testing fees, and fingerprinting, if it is required by the state.

      4. Childcare – required by certification program related absences.

      5. Transportation – 43.5 cents per mile at this date (subject to change) - figure round trip mileage to and from class.

      6. Other – such as lodging for out-of-town, certification seminars or other requirements.

    • Ineligible expenses
    • Expenses that TTT may not reimburse:
      1. Any expenses that were incurred prior to your eligibility date,
      2. computers,
      3. software,
      4. sports equipment,
      5. meals,
      6. additional degrees that don’t result in teacher certification.

      We are also not allowed to reimburse for certification or endorsements in areas other than teaching, e.g., administration, counseling, or teaching assistant..

  • Financial Assistance (Bonus)

    For qualified service members not receiving the Stipend, financial assistance may be provided to qualified service members in the form of a bonus of $10K to teach for three years in a school serving a high percentage of disadvantaged students.


  • Qualified service members already receiving the Stipend and wishing to change over to the Bonus program must contact the DANTES TTT office to determine it they meet the requirements for and thus can be changed over to the bonus program. Note: If the change over is made, the total financial assistance provided to the qualified service member (including financial assistance already provided under the Stipend) will not exceed $10K.
