Three Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) surveys, Institutional Characteristics (IC), Completion (C), and Enrollment in Occupationally Specific Programs (EP, collected in odd-numbered years), request information on enrollments and completions for programs.  The HEGIS to CIP crosswalk translates HEGIS codes used in the New York State Inventory of Registered Programs to CIP codes for these forms.  Likewise, NYSED forms that collect data to measure the performance of programs with Vocational and Technical Education Act funding reguire HEGIS code classifications.  (See HEGIS to CIP Codes Crosswalk.)
