CTE Grades 5 and 6 Extensions. A new regulatory amendment enables career and technical education (CTE) teachers in grades 7-12 to earn extensions to teach in grades 5 and 6 in specific career and technical education certificate titles. The amendment also allows institutions of higher education to develop an educator preparation program that leads to an extension to teach in grades 5 and 6 in any specific career and technical education title. The requirements for the grades 5 and 6 extension are six semester hours of coursework in middle childhood education, which include study in early adolescent development and instructional strategies in middle childhood education.
NEW YORK STATE TEACHER CERTIFICATION EXAMINATIONS (NYSTCE) SAFETY NETS EXPIRING CRITICAL INFORMATION FOR YOUR CANDIDATES The safety nets for the following Content Specialty Tests (CSTs) are available until June 30, 2019: American Sign Language, Cantonese, English as a Second Language (ESOL), French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Mandarin, Russian, Social Studies, and Spanish. The safety nets for these tests allows candidates to take either the current (redeveloped) CST or the safety net (predecessor) CST. For Students with Disabilities (Grades 7-12) Generalist certification, the predecessor Multi-Subject: Secondary Teachers (Grades 7-12), Part Two: Mathematics (242) test and its safety net is available until June 30, 2019. The revised Multi-Subject: Secondary Teachers (Grades 7-12), Part Two: Mathematics (244) test test does not have a safety net. |

NEW YORK STATE TEACHER CERTIFICATION EXAMINATIONS (NYSTCE) TEST DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES
The Department continues to recruit educators to participate in item bank expansion activities and other test development activities in all NYSTCE fields. Certified P-12 educators and higher education professionals, including both higher education teacher preparation faculty and higher education faculty who have content expertise, are encouraged to apply by visiting the Teacher Participation Opportunities webpage and completing the online application.
