- Question: Are the TOT application forms available in Word?

- Question: Is this grant for prospective teachers who are new to public schools or new to the District?
Answer: The Recruitment Incentive Program is to provide incentives to teachers employed for the first time in the school district. Teachers must hold initial, transitional, provisional, permanent, or professional certification and must agree to one year of service in shortage areas.
- Question: If a teacher left the field of teaching with their permanent certification, transitioned into another field (such as business, etc.)…can that teacher qualify for incentives if transitioning back into the education field in their area of expertise, even though they have that certification from the past?
Answer: If the teacher is new to the district and in a teaching area experiencing a shortage, they could qualify for the Recruitment Incentive Program. Because the individual already holds a permanent certification they would not be eligible for the Tuition Reimbursement Program. If the individual will teach in the New York City Department of Education school district for the first time they could participate in the Summer Teacher Training Program.
Depending upon the specifics of the individual’s re-entry into the teaching profession (i.e. a math/science being a different field from their permanent certification), the individual may qualify for the Science and Mathematics Tuition Reimbursement Program if they were in the transitional certification process for Math/Science. Given the unlikelihood of an individual reentering the teaching profession through the transitional process, after already holding a permanent certification, this situation should be discussed on a case-by-case basis with SED. It does not appear based upon the information provided that the individual would be eligible under the Master Teacher Program or the Summer in the City Internship Program.
