Announcement: Information on Exam Fee Vouchers
From: John L. D'Agati, Deputy Commissioner, Office of Higher Education
Consistent with our work last year, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) will be providing teacher preparation institutions with exam fee vouchers for candidates demonstrating financial need.
NYSED will distribute again approximately 1,800 vouchers to institutions with teacher education programs. Of the total number of available vouchers, approximately 1,200 will be allocated for use by teacher candidates to waive the test registration fee for NYSTCE [e.g., Academic Literacy Skills Test (ALST), Educating All Students (EAS) test, and Content Specialty Tests (CSTs)] and the approximately 600 remaining vouchers can be used to waive the registration fee for the edTPA.
These vouchers may only be used once and will not apply to the School Leadership Assessments, late registration, other service fees, or online practice tests.
Vouchers will be allocated to institutions based on the total number of students enrolled in the teacher education programs who are eligible for Pell Grants. For institutions with graduate teacher education programs only, voucher distribution will be contingent upon the number of graduate students enrolled in graduate teacher education programs.
In addition, this year we have been able to secure Race to the Top (RTTT) funding to establish the Certification Assessment Assistance Fund. These funds (in paper form only) will also be allocated to each institution based on the same proportion of students in your programs who are Pell eligible. More details on this Certification Assessment Assistance Fund program and its requirements will follow shortly.
Institutions interested in participating in the voucher distribution program and the Certification Assessment Assistance Fund will need to provide the information outlined below to NYSED at email@example.com no later than August 1, 2014. This information will be used to distribute the vouchers.
- For all undergraduate teacher preparation programs, the number of Pell Grant recipients in the 2013-2014 classroom teacher cohort
- For institutions with graduate programs only, the number of graduate students in the 2013-2014 classroom teacher cohort
