July 31, 2001
TO: Members of the Proprietary School Advisory Council, Licensed Trade and Business Schools/Computer Training Facilities, and Other Interested Parties
FROM: Howard J. Goldsmith, Bureau Chief
SUBJECT: Special Meeting of the New York State Proprietary School Advisory Council September 6, 2001
The Proprietary School Advisory Council will be conducting a special meeting on Thursday, September 6, 2001 from 10:00 am to 4:00 p.m. at the offices of the Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision (BPSS), 116 West 32nd Street, 14th Floor, New York, New York 10001.
The purpose of this meeting is to begin providing recommendations and technical assistance to BPSS in its efforts to amend Part 126 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education. The agenda for this meeting will be limited to discussions on regulatory reform.
At the Councils July 12, 2001 meeting, it was decided that the entire Advisory Council will meet as the Regulatory Amendments Task Force, at least for the initial sessions in which priorities will be set and an organizational framework will be established. I have enclosed a draft copy of the July 12, 2001 meeting minutes for your information.
In its Executive Session, the Advisory Council decided that this special regulatory reform meeting will be open to the public. In addition, there will be time for public input and comment from those individuals who submit their comments prior to the meeting for consideration by the Council. Submissions must be forwarded to BPSS at the New York State Education Department, Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision, Room 974 EBA, Albany, New York 12234 by August 24, 2001. I will compile all of the public submissions for the Councils review.
In order to be considered by the Council and to be heard at the September 6, 2001 meeting, your submission must clearly: 1) specify the regulation(s) you are proposing to be amended; 2) state your proposed amended language to the regulation; and 3) include the basis or justification for your proposal.
I look forward to meeting with you and working together on this most worthwhile initiative.
