Excellence and Opportunity for All New Yorkers: the Statewide Plan for Higher Education 1996-2004 |
The Board of Regents approved its 1996 Statewide Plan on December 20, 1996 for submission to the Governor, the Legislature, Chief Executive Officers and other interested parties. We are circulating the document widely and asking our stakeholders to review it carefully.
The Plan lays out a vision for the higher education system in New York State, discusses the challenges the system faces, and suggests ways in which we can work together to overcome these challenges. Most importantly, the Plan sets forth three goals for the higher education system. Under each goal it identifies objectives and strategies to meet the objectives.
In order to implement the Plan and to reach the goals the Regents have adopted, we need the assistance of all our constituents and stakeholders. We will convene advisory groups to identify system needs and ways to reach the Regents goals, help form partnerships to address capacity issues, advocate for higher education, and hold higher education institutions accountable for furthering the goals and objectives in the Plan.
I would be happy to receive your comments on this Plan, and I look
forward to working with you to implement it as we move our higher education system into
the 21st century.
